The site was the religious centre of the cities in south-west Crete. It flourished during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. In 1957-58 the Asklipieion was excavated by N. Platon.
 
Most important monuments are considered:
 
The temple of Asklipios, Hellenistic – Roman periods.

Part of Roman theater.

Rock-cut and built chamber tombs.
