Overview:The museum was founded at the end of the 19th century, during the Turkish occupation of Crete, and was housed in several buildings in the past. Today it is housed in the building of the Commercial Ottoman School, which is protected by a preservation order and has been ceded to the Ministry of Culture by the Municipality of Ierapetra. Don’t miss the opportunity to admire, while there: The Clay sarcophagus, Stone stele from Hierapytna (current Ierapetra), the Honorary inscription, the Red-figure amphora from Manoliana of Ierapetra, the Clay plastic vase, the Minoan axe mold, the marble statue of the standing female, the marble headless woman from the region of ancient theater in Viglia (Ierapetra), the marble statuette since the Roman era and the marble head of man statue. |
